The Netherlands has a rich tango history and was one of the first countries in Europe with an Argentinean Tango festival. From 1998 to 2013 took place in Amsterdam Tangomagia place. This festival was once famous for the ‘maestros’ and musicians who visited the festival. But times has changed. Experienced dancers can dance a tangomarathon every week somewhere in Europe and milongas appear in each city. That is good news. It proves that the Argentine Tango lives in the Netherlands. At the same time it means an impoverishment of the tango landscape.
The end of 2014 was the first edition of the Tangoweek. Then still small. With a Tangoclub at the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam and a Tango Club at Kasteel de Haar.
The Dutch International Tangoweek foundation aims to make tango special. To inspire. And to open the Tangoworld to a wider audience. Music lovers and dancers. In addition to events for dancers, the Tangoweek organization wants to show the beauty of the Tango. In dance, music and art. In all its forms. As an independent organization that is willing to talk with anyone who wants to contribute to the goals of the foundation.
Results financial year 2015-2016
In the first year of the foundation doubled the number of events organized in partnership with local organizers and schools. The number of visitors grew from 250 to nearly 1000. The foundation provided (financial) support in four regions for the regional tango scene.
